Learning Outcomes

At the end of the session participants will be able to:

  • Understand the depth of content for the Family Practice area, and how to keep up to date with new and changing materials
  • Locate a document, commentary publication or case using the global search bar
  • Understand the difference between plain language searching and Boolean searching
  • How to structure a Terms & Connectors search, identify keywords, and build a search string
  • Find case law using the Key Number System or Advanced Search
  • Understand the case analysis options when looking at case law
  • Refine, filter and narrow search results
  • Print, download or save to folders
  • Annotate documents, using highlights and notes
  • Know how to get further assistance when using Westlaw
  • Be aware of Custom Pages including the Family Custom Page to be supplied by the trainer at the end of the session
