The Chairman of the Incorporated Council of Law Reporting for Queensland, John McKenna KC, has authored a briefing paper on the key features and practices of law reporting.

The paper is part of an education campaign by the Consultative Council of Australasian Law Reporting (CCALR). It provides more information to law students and the profession on what is involved in our system of law reporting, and why this system forms an important basis for court practices on citing authorised reports.

"These practices are fundamental to the efficient operation of the courts.

"However, the recent experience of courts, across Australia and New Zealand, has given rise to concern that these practices are not sufficiently understood or observed.

"It is hoped that this trend can be reversed, with the assistance of the Law Schools and the professional associations."
